Ingredients
– 1/2 cup tonic water (hold black light under or near it to show off the glow!)
– 2-3 ice cubes (optional)
– 1/2 cup of cranberry juice cocktail, Cran-Raspberry juice or tart cherry juice. Other flavors may also work.
– 1/2 tsp. sugar if needed, or use simple syrup or honey.
– Slices of limes, lemons, oranges or strawberries for garnish
Instructions
Mix and drink!
If the kids make a face, a bit of sugar can help. Some will not like the quinine taste but several of our kids liked it a lot.
More Information
Tonic water contains quinine, a chemical that reflects black light. It can taste bitter, but we found that the Safeway brand was mild. After the glowing display, we added fruit juice, ice and a bit of sweetener and voila, a very nice drink. The fruit juice, especially if it’s dark, can cut down on the “glow” – so we added the juice after our “experiment.”
